Interventional radiologists begin their career with diagnostic radiology training where they learn to read and interpret images from X-rays, MRIs, CT, ultrasound and other imaging modalities. After their residency, they undergo additional years of training in performing interventional radiology procedures using diagnostic imaging to guide each intervention.
