Pelvic Venous Disease/Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

Pelvic Venous Disease are enlarged, swollen veins in the pelvis. They can result in chronic, dull pelvic pain, lower back pain, varicose veins and urinary problems. Pelvic venous disease is often confused with other conditions because its symptoms are very similar to other conditions.

Chronic pelvic pain will affect up to a third of all women at some point in their lives. About 15% of women develop pelvic varicose veins–usually during childbearing years–which can lead to pelvic venous disease. It is believed that pregnancy and an imbalance of estrogen is responsible for dilating and ultimately weakening the blood vessels, causing venous insufficiency.

If the pain from pelvic venous disease is mild, it can be treated with medication. In some cases, the pain can become debilitating and negatively affect your quality of life. If this is the case, Alate Health offers effective and minimally invasive treatment options for pelvic venous disease.
